Formal discussion about hospital accreditation in Jordan began with several meetings of a task force of 5 key stakeholders in early 2003. These discussions and the later collaboration of the Ministry of Health and United States Agency for International Aid and Development would lead to establishment of HCAC in December of 2007.
The creation of HCAC represents a successful model of cross sector collaboration in health care.
The history and timeline of HCAC establishment is as follows:

Early 2003; formal discussions initiated for development of hospital accreditation and formation of National Accreditation Committee

2004; MOH partners with the USAID project – PHRplus- to support the Jordan Hospital Accreditation Project

Late 2004; National Accreditation workshop held with 150 stakeholders

2005; Twenty four hospitals selected for participation in pilot accreditation program; in parallel development of Hospital Accreditation Standards

2006; official approval of Jordan Hospital Accreditation Standards by the Minister of Health; H.E. Eng. Said Darwazeh. Initiation of process to establish HCAC by vetting of HCAC by-laws

Early 2007; USAID awards University Research Company (URC) the contract to continue work of PHRplus in Health Care Accreditation

Late 2007; registration of HCAC as a non profit private shareholding company with the Ministry of Trade and Industry

Late 2007 HCAC receives ISQua accreditation of HCAC Hospital Standards

December 2009; HCAC receives ISQua Accreditation of its Surveyor Training Program

March 2010; HCAC receives ISQua Accrediation for the HCAC Organization
